Project Details:

Goal: Design an adaptor to allow the customer to use a bearingless magnetic encoder. This encoder was chosen to remove the potential failure or wear point of the bearings from the equation that is typically found in a hollow bore design.

Factors: The design required a female end on the motor side of the adaptor, and male end on the encoder side. We also needed to allow for access to the lube point and drain on the motor bearing housing.

How we did it: We designed a simple yet robust adaptor to accommodate the customer’s encoder and position it relative to the accessory shaft on their motor. This allowed the customer to couple their motor to the encoder with no need for bearings or couplings, just an air gap.
